Fellowships

Every year, VDAT offers fellowships to teachers and research scholars from educational institutions from India to attend the VLSI Education Day and VLSI Design and Test Symposium. Fellowships should not be viewed as recognitions. They should be viewed as encouragement to attend VDAT when the participant lacks financial support from the academic institution he/she belongs to. Fellowships only involve a subsidised registration fee (Rs 500/-). Travel and stay arrangements must be made by the participants.

This year, we received an overwhelming number of applications for fellowships for attending VDAT 2005. We considered several criteria to shortlist about 100 fellows. Our criteria included:

Maximum limit on fellowships and trying to ensure all geographic areas of India are represented in a fair manner
Completely filled application with letter from Head of the Department sent in hardcopy before the deadline
Priority for faculty working in VLSI area
Priority to authors of submitting papers - we have limited to one per paper when multiple authors have applied for fellowship
Priority to PG students pursuing M.Tech in VLSI
Priority to faculty who have not received fellowships before to attend VDAT

If your name is not in the list of selected candidates, please do not be disheartened. We hope you will be able to attend VDAT this year. We are maintaining a small waiting list which we will operate if some recipients of fellowship decide to drop out. We will send a communication to those who are on the waiting list if the situation presents itself.

Registration for Participation

If your name appears on the list of selected candidates, you must do the following:

Register for VDAT 2005 with full amount, as per the guidelines given in the advance program on or before July 25. Any queries related to registration must be sent only to the Registration Chair.
If we do not have your registration before 5.00 PM on July 25, we will assume that you do not wish to avail the fellowship and pass on your fellowship to a person on the waiting list.
The list of all fellows who will attend the program will be finalized no later than August 1, 2005. On the spot registrations will not be possible for fellows.
As mentioned before, fellows must register with full amount. We will reimburse the balance on August 13 evening at the VDAT venue. For example, if you have registered by paying Rs 2000 and the fellow registration amount is Rs 500, the difference of Rs 1500 will be reimbursed to you.
We do not have provision for reimbursing TA/DA to fellows. Please contact your college for reimbursement of TA/DA. We cannot provide accommodation to fellows.
You can register for one of the two tutorials being offered -
Analog Design or Embedded Systems. You must clearly indicate your choice. You cannot change this later. Registration for tutorial must also be sent before July 25. Registration amount for tutorial is Rs 500/- for all fellows. If you are registering for a tutorial, you must send a draft for Rs 2000 + Rs 500 = Rs 2500. If you are not registering for a tutorial, you must send a draft for Rs 2000/-. In either case, a reimbursement of Rs 1500/- will be made on August 13, 2005.
You must bring an identity card as proof of your faculty/student status to the registration desk. You must provide the reference number appearing against your name to the registration desk.
Without these two, you cannot be registered. Please note that fellowships cannot be transferred to anyone else. Also, you cannot ask someone else to register and collect the material or reimbursement on your behalf. Once registered, you are expected to attend the event on all 3 days.
If, for some reason, you cannot attend VDAT 2005, please let us know immediately. Write to the Fellowships Chair and we will pass on your fellowship to the person on top of the waiting list.
