Report by: Dr.C.P.Ravikumar On May 4, 2010, VLSI Society of India hosted a seminar in cooperation with Texas Instruments (India) and IEEE CAS Bangalore Chapter on the topic Low-Power Receiver Architecture and Algorithms for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN). The speaker was Mr Satyam Dwivedi from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The seminar was attended by about 25 participants. Dr. C.P. Ravikumar, secretary of VLSI Society of India, welcomed the audience and introduced the speaker. Satyam is a PhD student at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He works in the areas of physical layer of wireless communication, signal processing and circuit design. Satyam obtained his B.E. degree from MS University, Baroda, Gujarat, and M.E. degree from IISc in Electrical Communications.

The seminar explained the work carried out by Mr. Satyam Dwivedi as part of his doctoral thesis work. The talk focused on low-power receiver architecture and algorithms for IEEE 802.15.4 WPAN, which is a popular commercial standard for wireless personal area networks and sensor network interfaces. Mr. Dwivedi spoke on the topic of low-power receiver design using energy/bit as the design metric. The seminar was very interactive, and the audience raised several questions. Dr. C.P. Ravikumar thanked the speaker and the audience for making the event successful. A memento was presented to the speaker. Refreshments were served at the end of the seminar.
